It was said that this requires significant financial investments, both from internal and external sources.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14838\" src=\"http:\/\/sverenins.uz\/wp-content\/uploads\/ARQlan16765274786671_b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"680\" height=\"453\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The issues of increasing the efficiency and environmental friendliness of the agricultural sector, as well as its modernization were discussed on February 15 during an online meeting of ministers of Central Asian countries, the UN News Service <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/ru\/story\/2023\/02\/1437677\">reports<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The sixth meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In the past three decades, the growth of agricultural productivity in the countries of the region has remained slow, despite the abundance and diversity of land resources, the meeting said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWith a sustainable approach, increasing agricultural productivity can lead to increased food and nutrition security in Central Asia,\u201d said Vladimir Rakhmanin, FAO Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The agricultural sector is responsible not only for food production, but also provides employment for a significant part of the population of the countries of the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe sustainable functioning and development of agriculture requires significant financial investments and investments, both from internal and external sources,\u201d said the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Aziz Voitov.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cWithout them, it is impossible to introduce expensive modern technologies and innovative methods that increase productivity and save resources. In addition, it is important to simultaneously develop social and economic infrastructure in rural areas and invest significant resources in the growth of human potential and the competence of farmers,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Achieving higher agricultural growth rates requires farmers to invest in new technologies, capital goods, agricultural equipment, and modern livestock breeding methods. Ministers discussed innovative financing schemes to promote development that improves biodiversity, soil fertility and water use efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The meeting participants also exchanged information on proven modern approaches to the distribution of public funds to achieve maximum effect while stimulating agricultural growth. These include investment in infrastructure (roads, irrigation systems), promotion of agricultural research and education, and better management of natural resources. In addition, changes in tax schemes, direct and indirect subsidies, tariffs and import quotas can also affect the development of the agricultural sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agro.uz\/ru\/11-045361515\/\">According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan<\/a>, the contribution of the agricultural sector to GDP last year amounted to 25%. The sector employs about 3.6 million people. 49% of the country&#8217;s population lives in rural areas.
