During his state visit to Islamabad, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari in a private meeting with delegations at the Aiwan-e-Sadr residence, the press service of the head of our state reports.
The current status and key areas for further expansion of multifaceted cooperation, as well as strengthening the friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, were discussed.
At the beginning of the meeting, Asif Ali Zardari congratulated the head of state on the successful results of the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council and emphasized the historic significance of the current state visit in the context of giving new impetus to deepening bilateral relations.
The large-scale socioeconomic transformations being implemented in New Uzbekistan as part of the Development Strategy 2030 were highly commended.
The active contacts at various levels were noted with satisfaction. Trade turnover and the number of joint ventures are growing steadily. Cooperation projects are being implemented in priority economic sectors.
Ahead of the summit in Islamabad, a productive meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and political consultations were held.
The importance of further expanding practical cooperation, including strengthening political dialogue, developing trade, economic, and investment ties, and intensifying business exchanges, was emphasized.
Coordination and implementation of joint measures to increase mutual trade volumes to $2 billion in the near future were discussed separately.
Particular attention was paid to developing interregional cooperation. It was agreed to hold the first meeting of the Forum of Regions in Khiva this year.
An exchange of views took place on strengthening cooperation within international organizations. The parties reaffirmed their mutual support and shared positions on current regional and international agendas.
They reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding cultural and humanitarian exchanges and promoting joint projects in education, the environment, sports, and other areas.
Following the talks, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Asif Ali Zardari to visit Uzbekistan.
