The first Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Sri Lanka Alisher Tukhtayev held a presentation in Colombo dedicated to the possibilities of economic diplomacy of our country, the correspondent of ‘‘Dunyo’’ news agency reports.

The Ambassador took part in the award ceremony of the National Business Excellence Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious events in the country, annually organized by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka. The purpose of the event is to recognize the achievements of the private sector, strengthen the corporate culture and promote key sectors of the national economy.

This year, the ceremony was attended by more than 600 representatives of large and medium-sized businesses, heads of international organizations, ambassadors of the BRICS, ASEAN and the Persian Gulf countries.

As part of the event, the Ambassador made a presentation on trade, economic and industrial opportunities, investment and export potential of Uzbekistan.

The main focus was on such issues as large-scale socio-economic reforms implemented in Uzbekistan, creation of a favorable and competitive business environment, improvement of the investment climate, tax and customs benefits, free economic zones, logistics opportunities and access to regional markets.

During the presentation, the participants of the event were also provided with detailed information on the priority areas of state policy aimed at digitalization, modernization of infrastructure and support of innovative entrepreneurship, implemented under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It was noted that a new business architecture is being formed in Uzbekistan, open to foreign partners and aimed at long-term cooperation.

The Ambassador held separate meetings with the President of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce Anura Warnakulasuriya and heads of leading companies working in the production of Ceylon tea and spices, textile industry, rubber processing, as well as the production of motorcycles and components.

Following the talks, a number of practical agreements were reached on organizing a visit to our country by a delegation of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in the near future, holding a joint business forum, familiarizing themselves with the capabilities of industrial zones in Tashkent and the regions, and creating, with the participation of foreign partners, production facilities for the production of products exported to third countries.

Representatives of a number of Sri Lankan companies also expressed their readiness to send business missions to Tashkent and the regions as a pilot project to establish direct contacts with Uzbek partners, localize production and study the possibilities of entering the Central Asian markets through Uzbekistan.
