The next item on the business agenda of the official visit to Tokyo was talks between President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reports.
Practical aspects of further expanding full-scale cooperation and promoting joint projects with this leading Japanese financial institution were discussed.
The high level of strategic partnership achieved in recent years was noted with satisfaction. The rate of project fund disbursement has increased significantly.
The project portfolio has exceeded $8 billion.
Another initiative worth over $3 billion is being developed in areas such as healthcare, energy, transport, education, industry, and other priority areas.
During the visit, new agreements were signed on the development of economic zones, agriculture, the supply of medical equipment, and support for entrepreneurship.
The Japanese side highly appreciated the long-standing support for the activities of the Uzbek-Japanese Center for Human Resource Development and the Youth Innovation Center.
Particular attention was paid to expanding the Agency’s involvement in developing the energy sector, supporting youth and women’s entrepreneurship, ensuring employment and combating poverty, training advanced engineering personnel, and scaling up the “One Village – One Product” project.
Mutual commitment was expressed to the prompt launch of the project to create a special economic zone for Japanese investors.
In conclusion, the head of state noted the importance of timely preparation and ensuring the sustainability of project results under the New Cooperation Program with JICA until 2030.
