Hand carpet will be developed

The President’s decision «On measures for the development of the branch of manual carpet weaving» was adopted.

In accordance with the resolution, from 1 January 2021, subsidies in the amount of 2,000 sums for each kilogram of wool of the sheep of the breed «Merinos» and the goats of the breed «Angor» are allocated to livestock producers from the State budgetwhich they sold to artisans and organizations specializing in hand carpet weaving. The allocation of subsidies is carried out by the Agency «Uzbekchorvanasl».

The initiators of the projects on grazing of sheep of the breed «merino» and goats of the breed «angor», processing and painting of wool, as well as hand carpet weaving, at the same time with compensation is also granted a surety.

In the case of the export of hand-made carpets, a subsidy mechanism is applied to compensate up to 50 per cent of the costs of transport by road, air and rail.

According to the resolution, farms for the cultivation of sheep of the breed «merino» and goats of the breed «angor» will be allocated pasture land areas in Djizak, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya and Tashkent provinces.

Prior to 1 January 2021, primary seed farming of drought-resistant fodder crops will be organized for pre-mountainous pastures.

Beginning on July 15, 2020, persons engaged in hand carpet weaving and silk quality within the Association «Uzbek Paksanota» are granted subsidies to cover the costs of the purchase of carpet and silk press – 10-fold of BRV (2 million. 230 thousand sum) for each machine.

Beginning in 2021, the International Festival of Hand-made Oriental Carpets (Hand-made Oriental Carpets) will be held every two years in Tashkent in October.

By the end of 2020, the cultural heritage sites visited by tourists in the cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Shahrizabze will have trade exhibition rows (shops) of hand-made carpets.

Also, mobile applications about carpet history («The history of carpet») will be developed according to QR codes, including information about the process of making each carpet, women embroidery, their working conditions and other similar information.
