Uzbekistan-Egypt: prospects for economic cooperation

On September 16, 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Dilshod Akhatov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part in Cairo in a scientific and practical seminar on “Uzbekistan-Egypt: prospects for economic cooperation”.

The event was attended by representatives of the Center for Political and Information Studies, Parliament, Ain al-Shams University, the Center for Women’s Rights, the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation of Egypt, the Federation of Industry, the Chamber of Commerce, who were acquainted with the ongoing large-scale reforms and fundamental reforms in Uzbekistan, opening up new opportunities for expanding interaction between the business of the two countries, joint implementation of beneficial projects in various sectors of the economy.

The head of the Uzbek delegation emphasized that our country considers Egypt as a unique production site and transport hub for export-import trade, and the supply of goods to the African market.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan Oybek Usmanov informed the seminar participants on the status of bilateral cooperation and promising areas of Uzbek-Egyptian relations in trade, investment and other areas of mutual interest. As noted, the number of exchanges of visits by trade and economic delegations of the two countries has increased recently. In particular, in the first half of this year, more than 10 business forums and meetings in the B2B format were organized. During the visits of leading Egyptian companies to Tashkent, Karshi, Namangan, Ferghana and Termez, more than 30 memorandums were signed and 12 joint ventures were registered with Uzbek partners in various sectors of the economy.
