Chinese company will build three large hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan

The Chinese company China Southern Power Grid plans to build three large hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan, Spot reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

The head of Uzbekhydroenergo, Abdugani Sanginov, received the director of the Chinese company Zhang Tanzhi the day before. The parties signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of three HPPs with a capacity of 820 MW: Upper Pskem (200 MW), Karateren (500 MW) and Upper Pskem (120 MW).

The launch of projects at full capacity is scheduled for 2030. The total cost of construction of three HPPs will be $1.64 billion.

Due to the new capacities, annual electricity generation will increase by 3 billion kWh, which is enough to provide uninterrupted power supply to 1.6 million people. At the same time, up to 835.6 million cubic meters of gas will be saved, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

Within the framework of the memorandum, the composition of the joint working group, which will develop the technical and economic basis of the projects, was also agreed. International experts will be involved in this process.
