The European Investment Bank (EIB) plans to open an office in Tashkent, Spot reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
On October 22, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov discussed with EIB Vice-President Teresa Chervinskaya issues of bilateral cooperation in the areas of macroeconomics and green energy.
In particular, Saidov welcomed the opening of the EIB office in Tashkent.
The head of the Foreign Ministry also took part in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union and Central Asia in Luxembourg, following which the participants adopted a joint communiqué. In it, the European Union recalled 11 packages of sanctions against Russia, noting “the importance of results-oriented dialogue and cooperation in the context of EU sanctions regimes.”
“The EU emphasized the importance of preventing sanctions circumvention, and the participants [of the meeting] agreed to continue to cooperate in this direction,” the document says.
In early October, the European Parliament called for Uzbekistan to be checked for sanctions evasion and possible assistance to Russia. At the same time, MEPs noted the country’s desire to diversify trade to reduce dependence on the Russian Federation.
