On June 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to discuss urgent measures in foreign trade and transport and logistics, the press service of the head of our state reports.
The military actions that have occurred in the Middle East in recent days have further exacerbated the already unstable situation. This cannot but affect foreign economic relations and Uzbekistan’s routes to world markets.
In this regard, it is necessary to objectively assess what is happening and promptly take measures in such key areas as foreign trade, investment and transport, the meeting emphasized.
In particular, the need to diversify export routes and redirect cargo to other, safer ports was noted. According to preliminary estimates, this could lead to an increase in transportation costs by up to 30 percent. In this regard, instructions were given to coordinate alternative routes with partner countries and support export-oriented enterprises.
The heads of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other relevant departments were tasked with closely cooperating with business entities, assisting them in export-import operations, as well as in finding new sales markets. At the same time, the importance of maintaining sustainable production rates and price stability in the domestic market was emphasized.
