The Consul General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk Aslam Akbarov held talks in Tomsk with Deputy Governor of Tomsk Region for Economy, Investment Policy and Property Relations Vasily Potemkin, the correspondent ‘‘Dunyo’’ news agency reports.
The Russian side expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality and cordiality during the participation of the representative delegation of Tomsk Region in the work of the fifth International Industrial Exhibition ‘‘INNOPROM. Central Asia’’, which was held in April this year in Tashkent.
It was noted that the fruitful meetings held and agreements reached on topical issues of cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres with Tomsk Region were the result of established productive ties at the interregional level.
It was emphasized that Uzbekistan is one of the key foreign economic partners of Tomsk Region and ranks second in the market ranking in terms of trade turnover with a share of 19.3%. In this regard, further cooperation with Uzbekistan in the economic sphere is among the priorities of the region’s leadership.
Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of previously reached agreements, in particular in the field of industrial cooperation, oil and gas and chemical industries.
It was emphasized that the business visit of entrepreneurs of the Tomsk region to Uzbekistan in April 2025 was not only the first in its history, but also outlined real prerequisites for further expansion of cooperation in these areas of the economy and industry.
During the meeting, the dates of visits to Tomsk of representatives of ‘‘Uzkimyosanoat’’ JSC and ‘‘Uzbekneftegaz’’ JSC, the leadership of the khokimiyat of the Syrdarya region, and holding online negotiations in the near future between representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and similar structures of the Tomsk region were agreed upon.
The issues of further strengthening cooperation with the Tomsk region in the cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres were considered.
In particular, the Russian side fully supported the initiative of the Consulate General to hold a presentation of the cultural and tourist potential of Uzbekistan in Tomsk in the second half of August this year, as well as celebratory events dedicated to the 34th anniversary of our country’s independence.
The Russian side also agreed with the proposal to consider the possibility of increasing the quota of Tomsk universities for Uzbek students, including on a grant basis.
