On April 7, on the sidelines of the 150th Anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the heads of parliaments of the Arab states, the press service of the head of our state reports.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Arab Parliament Mohammed bin Ahmad Al-Yamahi, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Parliament of Bahrain Ahmad bin Salman Al-Musallam, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Egypt Hanafi Ali Al-Gebali, the Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali, the Chairman of the Shura Council of Qatar Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim and the Chairman of the Committee of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates Ali Rashid Al-Nuaimi.
The issues of further development of multifaceted relations with the states of the Arab world, including through parliamentary ties, were discussed.
At the beginning of the meeting, the heads of the delegations conveyed to the leader of Uzbekistan sincere greetings and best wishes from the leaders of their countries.
It was noted with deep satisfaction that in recent years the comprehensive partnership between Uzbekistan and the Arab world has been developing dynamically.
Historic visits have been made at the highest level, active mutual contacts and exchanges are maintained.
Relations with the United Arab Emirates and the State of Qatar have reached the level of strategic partnership, comprehensive cooperation has been established with Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Comprehensive cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Sultanate of Oman is consistently developing.
The portfolio of investment projects with these countries has exceeded 50 billion dollars. Projects are being implemented in the fields of “green” energy, chemical industry, agriculture, IT industry, transport and logistics, infrastructure and tourism. About 500 joint ventures have been created, the number of direct flights exceeds 150 per week.
Topical issues on the regional agenda were discussed, including the settlement of the situation in the Middle East.
The schedule of upcoming high-level events was reviewed, primarily the holding of the second summit of the Central Asia-Gulf Cooperation Council dialogue in May of this year in the city of Samarkand.
