On May 17, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received on the sidelines of the Samarkand summit of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development a delegation of the European Union headed by Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis. This was reported by the press service of the head of our state.
Issues of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and EU institutions, including in a regional format, were considered.
Valdis Dombrovskis conveyed sincere greetings to the head of our state from President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel. Support was expressed for the ongoing program of irreversible democratic transformations and socio-economic reforms in New Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the intensification of contacts and productive exchanges, the growing dynamics of interaction in the field of trade, investment, “green” economy, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, as well as in the cultural and humanitarian sphere were noted with satisfaction.
The trade turnover of Uzbekistan with the EU countries has increased by 65 percent since the beginning of the year. The portfolio of ongoing and promising projects with leading European companies and banking and financial institutions exceeds 20 billion euros.
The importance of continuing an intensive dialogue with the EU institutions, primarily on the economic track, was emphasized. The focus is on the adoption of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, our country’s accession to the World Trade Organization, and participation in the GSP+ preferential system.
