Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the 2028–2029 term, the Republic of Uzbekistan was unanimously elected as a member of this prestigious body — for the first time in its history, the press service of the MFA reports.
The FAO Council is composed of 49 member states, elected for terms of up to three years, with consideration given to equitable geographic representation. The Council is responsible for discussing the FAO’s budget and programs and for adopting important decisions and recommendations addressed to the FAO Conference.
Uzbekistan’s election to the FAO Council is a clear acknowledgment of the country’s deep and far-reaching reforms in agriculture and food security, carried out under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as a reflection of Uzbekistan’s growing influence in global affairs.
This membership provides Uzbekistan with a valuable platform to participate in shaping global agricultural and food policies, drafting international regulations and standards, advancing national and regional initiatives, promoting strategic projects, and attracting additional financial resources to support development.
