The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Finland, Kadambay Sultanov, held a video conference meeting with the Finnish Ambassador to our country, Ilkka Raisanenne, and the Chief Executive Officer of the EastCham Finland Chamber of Commerce, Yana Rekolainen, the correspondent of “Dunyo” news agency reports.
The prospects for building up bilateral trade and investment cooperation, industrial and technological cooperation, as well as practical cooperation in the field of reforming the education system in Uzbekistan were discussed.
There was also an exchange of information on the preparations for the 5th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Finland on February 21 in Tashkent.
The Finnish side informed that the Finnish delegation will be headed by Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari. It will include heads of large industrial corporations, technology companies, higher education institutions from among the members of the EastCham Finland chamber of commerce, an association of large Finnish businesses that provides consulting and legal support and other types of services to national companies wishing to enter international markets. Its members are over 600 leading companies of the country. The name change of the organization (former name Finnish-Russian Chamber of Commerce) reflects the shift in priorities and the growing importance of the Central Asian region for Finnish business.
The activities of companies planning to join the delegation visiting Uzbekistan cover the field of geology, mining, water treatment technologies, equipment production, education, trade and many other areas.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement to continue contacts with the participation of representatives of the involved ministries and departments, as well as non-state structures for the prompt resolution of organizational, logistical and substantive issues of the upcoming visit.
It should be noted that the 4th meeting of the Uzbek-Finnish intergovernmental commission was held in April 2020 via video link after an 18-year pause. Then, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov acted as co-chair from the Uzbek side, and Minister Ville Skinnari from the Finnish side.
