A representative office of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia will be opened in Tashkent

Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov met with the Director General of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LAID) Kaspars Roykalns, the correspondent of “Dunyo” news agency reports.

At the meeting, the prospects for a significant increase in trade, investment and technological cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia were discussed.

Kaspars Rozkalns noted that the Latvian business is showing increasing interest in promising cooperation with Uzbekistan.

It was reported that, taking into account the dynamics of relations, the need for a systematic approach to partnership in the trade, economic, investment and technological fields, the Latvian government decided to open a representative office of LIDA in Tashkent.

It was reported that pharmaceuticals, information and communication technologies, textile industry, agriculture, and food production were identified as promising areas of cooperation.

During the conversation, the schedule and agenda of future bilateral meetings at various levels were discussed.

LAIR, founded in 1993, is a structural subdivision of the Ministry of Economy of Latvia. The purpose of the organization is to increase the competitiveness and export potential of Latvian companies in the international market, support the inflow of foreign investment, implement the state policy and the national innovation strategy in the field of tourism development.

LAIR also has the power to issue permits to local companies to hire a shortage of skilled labor from outside. The agency has a representative offices in Boston (USA), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Canberra (Australia), Vienna (Austria), Ottawa (Canada), Copenhagen (Denmark), Paris (France), Turin (Italy), Tokyo (Japan) , Seoul (South Korea), London (Great Britain), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Oslo (Norway), Berlin (Germany), Stockholm (Sweden), Helsinki (Finland), Tel Aviv (Israel).

LIDA also manages 15 business incubators, which are considered an important component of the development of the regions of Latvia.
