Diplomats of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan held a number of events in the Chinese city of Foshan in Guangdong Province, the correspondent of ‘‘Dunyo’’ news agency reports.
The events were organized with the aim of further expanding interregional cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
During a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Foshan, Ms. Wen Xi, as well as with the heads of the Foreign Affairs Department and the Commercial Bureau, the parties discussed issues of expanding bilateral ties with an emphasis on developing trade, economic, investment and tourism cooperation.
One of the central events of the diplomatic delegation’s visit to Foshan was the business forum ‘‘Regions of Uzbekistan – Foshan: cooperation in investment, trade and tourism’’, which was attended by about 60 leading companies operating in the province.
During the forum, diplomats informed the participants of the event in detail about the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, the economic and tourism potential of the country, as well as opportunities for foreign investors. In particular, the activities of the ‘‘Free Economic Zones’’, tax and customs benefits, as well as promising investment and trade projects were discussed.
In addition, an agreement was reached to hold the ‘‘Visit Uzbekistan’’ event dedicated to the presentation of the tourism potential of our country together with such companies of the city of Foshan as ‘‘Foshan Travel Agency Association’’, ‘‘Shun’s Travel International’’, ‘‘SZL International Travel Service Ltd.’’ and ‘‘Tours International Tourist’’.
Foshan is a city with a population of 9.6 million people, located in the western part of Guangdong Province. In 2024, the gross regional product amounted to 190 billion US dollars (annual growth of +1.3%). It is the third largest industrial, educational, research and innovation center of the province after Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
The main drivers of the city’s economy are furniture production, ‘‘green’’ energy, electronics and electrical engineering, and the production of ceramic products.
