US Congressmen Express Readiness to Take Measures to Support Social and Economic Reforms in Uzbekistan

According to the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republik of Uzbekistan, August 22, 2022 Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov received a delegation of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America consisting of Congressmen Trent Kelly and Darin Lahoud.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects for the development of Uzbek-American relations.

Particular attention was paid to expanding inter-parliamentary contacts, deepening dialogue in the political, trade, investment, academic, cultural and humanitarian spheres both at the level of the two states and with the states of Mississippi and Illinois, which are represented by congressmen.

Separately, the activities of the “Caucus on Uzbekistan” in the House of Representatives of the Congress, co-chaired by Congressman T. Kelly, were discussed. It was emphasized that the composition of the Caucus is actively expanding due to promising American legislators who in every possible way support the systematic development of a strategic partnership with Uzbekistan.

The current growth dynamics of bilateral trade and investment ties was noted with satisfaction. The congressmen expressed their readiness to take measures to support the socio-economic reforms being implemented in our country.

The parties exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan, expressing readiness for further cooperation to prevent the difficult humanitarian situation that is developing in this country.

The meeting addressed topical issues on the bilateral agenda, as well as the interaction of the two countries within the framework of international organizations.
