From October 29 to 31, Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, conducted several high-level meetings in Tokyo with senior officials, financial leaders, and heads of major corporations, the press service of the MIIT reports.
These meetings focused on strengthening Uzbek-Japanese trade and economic partnerships as well as advancing financial and technical cooperation. Concrete steps were outlined to deepen industrial collaboration and increase trade across various economic sectors.
In discussions with Yoji Muto, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Tetsuo Saito, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, both sides agreed to boost cooperation in mining, chemicals, engineering, and energy sectors.
The parties also committed to collaborating on updating building codes, enhancing seismic safety standards, and adopting advanced public transit management systems. A delegation of Japanese IT companies will visit Uzbekistan to explore outsourcing opportunities with IT-Park Tashkent, and Uzbekistan will participate in the 2027 Yokohama International Fruit and Vegetable Expo.
In a meeting with JBIC’s Governor, a three-year cooperation plan was signed, promising non-sovereign financing to support Japanese company-led projects in Uzbekistan.
A program with JICA was also established to develop new projects, including engineering training programs, the establishment of a free economic zones, and the launch of a ‘‘One Village – One Product’’ initiative to equip citizens with entrepreneurial skills.
Major Japanese corporations Sojitz, Toyota Tsusho, Sumitomo, Jogmec, and Itochu have committed to collaborative industrial and infrastructure projects, many of which will be developed through public-private partnerships.
The visit underscored high confidence of Japanese government and business communities in Uzbekistan’s favorable investment climate, along with the strong interest in actively supporting new projects and establishing direct partnerships with Uzbek entrepreneurs.
