Perspective areas of US and Uzbekistan cooperation discussed

On 31 July, 2019, the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan Javlon Vakhabov visited Pennsylvania, USA and held negotiations with the representatives of officials, business and non-governmental circles.

Prospects of development of Uzbek-American relationships, measures taken by the government of Uzbekistan to enhance cooperation with United States were discussed during the meeting with Jim Kenny, the mayor of the city of Philadelphia.  

As a result of negotiations, the parties agreed to work out the issue of establishing friendly relationships between Samarkand and Philadelphia.

As part of the meeting with the chairman and CEO of the Global Philadelphia Association (GPA), Robert McNeill and Zabit Tilixingh (The GPA is one of the largest NGOs in the city of Philadelphia. GPA members are more than 200 structures (companies, universities, clubs, cultural institutions, museums, hospitals) considered the issue of establishing cooperation with members of the association. Mutual interest in cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, healthcare, education, as well as the organization of cultural events in the city of Philadelphia was noted.

The result of the visit of the Uzbek delegation was the opening ceremony of the Summer Summit of business circles and Chambers of Commerce in Philadelphia, which was attended by more than 200 people from among representatives of official, academic, non-governmental and business circles. The event was organized by leading Chambers of Commerce in the city of Philadelphia, specializing in the development of business contacts of the city with business circles of Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Israel and other countries.

The ambassador of Uzbekistan in his speech informed the summit participants about the transformations in our country, the implementation of the five-year development strategy, the agreements reached during the official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the United States in May 2018 and negotiations with President Donald Trump, the results of the presentation of the investment potential of the republic in Washington on July 18 of this year, as well as the forum “Opportunities for the capital market of Uzbekistan” in New York on July 22. Also, the head of the diplomatic mission invited members of the Philadelphia Chambers of Commerce to an Uzbek-American business forum, scheduled to be held in Washington on October 21-22.

In general, the visit of the Uzbek delegation allowed to establish close working relations with local official, business and non-governmental circles, widely disseminating information about large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan among representatives of the state of Pennsylvania, and to reach a number of important agreements in the field of cultural and humanitarian interaction.
