Prospects for developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia were discussed

On August 19 this year, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia Kaspars Gerhards, who arrived in Uzbekistan as part of the visit of the Latvian government delegation.

During the meeting, topical issues of developing practical cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, food industry, investment, trade, transport and logistics, as well as in other priority areas were considered.

The parties agreed that agriculture can act as a driving force for further expansion of investment partnership, as well as contribute to increasing the volume of bilateral trade.

The parties discussed the prospects for organizing the work in Latvia of the Made in Uzbekistan trade mission with the participation of representatives of 50 exporting companies of Uzbekistan. During the mission, the production and export potential of Uzbekistan in the food, chemical, textile, leather, wine, pharmaceutical and tourism industries will be presented. In addition, Uzbek entrepreneurs will take part in B2B negotiations with representatives of the business community of the Baltic countries, the International Food Exhibition “Riga Food 2022” and the Uzbek-Latvian Business Forum in Riga.

The parties also paid attention to new promising areas of bilateral cooperation of mutual interest. Opportunities for the implementation of new projects for the production of pharmaceutical products, the development of information technology and higher education were discussed. Cooperation plans for the near future also include a regular exchange of experience between the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries in terms of growing organic and certification of food products, as well as processing poultry and fish.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to intensify interaction to promote the considered projects and initiatives.
