Prospects for Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation in the leather and footwear industry

A meeting was held at the “Uzcharmsanoat” Association with a delegation from Turkmenistan led by the head of the “Maksad deri” company. The meeting was dedicated to the establishment of bilateral cooperation in the leather and footwear industry and the implementation of new joint projects.

At the beginning of the negotiations, Turkmen investors were provided with information about the conditions and opportunities created in the leather and footwear and fur industries of our country, production and investment potential, and export indicators. Information was also given on the opportunities and conditions created by the state for domestic and foreign investors, customs and tax benefits.

During the meeting, the head of the Turkmen company said that he visited the regions of our country and got acquainted with the production processes at the enterprises. He highly appreciated their capabilities, separately noting that in recent years the potential of our country in this direction has been increasing, to match the demand for products under the trademark “Made in Uzbekistan”. That is why he intends to cooperate with Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that today “Maksad deri” is the largest leather processing enterprise in Turkmenistan. Its daily capacity is 1000 units of leather material. At present, there are only three such leather enterprises in Turkmenistan. In the future, it is planned to increase their number to ten. For this reason, the Turkmen company aims to study the experience of Uzbekistan in this direction.

Turkmenistan also imports 70% of shoes from abroad, in particular from Uzbekistan. During the negotiations, the Turkmen investor expressed his desire to take advantage of all the possibilities of the business environment in Uzbekistan and create a shoe factory here.

As a result of the meeting at the “Uzcharmsanoat” Association, it was decided to provide the Turkmen company with practical assistance in opening a new enterprise and further developing bilateral cooperation.
