Drinking and sewerage water supply is gradually being privatized

Drinking and sewerage water supply is planned to be gradually privatized, Spot reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Justice.

According to the presidential decree of October 24, several joint stock companies will be created on the basis of Uzsuvtaminot and its subsidiaries by April 1, 2024 in the following areas:

  • regional main water supply organizations;
  • regional drinking water supply organizations in Karakalpakstan, regions and Tashkent.

From January 1, 2024, prices for cold water and sewerage will be based on the cost of services.

When designing new facilities, a requirement is established for their full coverage with water supply services.

In addition, in the coming years:

  • 813 areas with intensive water supply will be provided with drinking water;
  • water supply networks will be installed in almost 125 thousand households;
  • drinking water supply will be established in 130 settlements by placing a government order;
  • about 792 thousand consumers will install drinking water meters.

From July 1, 2024, drinking and sewerage water supplies will be transferred to the private sector on PPP basis.

The experiment is planned to cover several cities: Kagan, Shirin, Bekabad and Yangiyor.
