The government commission studied investment projects in the pharmaceutical industry in the Tashkent region

On August 7 this year, the Government Commission on Foreign Trade, Investments, Development of Local Industry and Technical Regulation, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev continued its work in the Tashkent region, where she visited a number of large investment projects.

The main purpose of such field trips is to study the current state of socio-economic development in the region, identify the problems of entrepreneurs and solve them, develop proposals for using all opportunities in terms of investment, industrial and export development.

The first on the route of the visit was LLC “Rossa” – a company engaged in the development and production of biotechnological products for the fields of medicine, veterinary medicine, food safety. During the implementation of the project, more than 5 million dollars were disbursed. Modern equipment is installed here and professional specialists work. During the 2021-2022 pandemic, the company supplied 3.8 million PCR test systems for the needs of SES to diagnose COVID-19. This made it possible, firstly, to partially meet domestic demand for locally produced diagnostic tools, and secondly, to reduce the cost of one test to 30,000 soums in 2021, and to 27,000 soums in 2022.

The members of the Government Commission were also presented with new developments of the company, including PCR test systems for determining HIV, hepatitis B and C, human papillomavirus, tuberculosis, herpes and other infections.

The next stop of the commission was the construction site of the innovative research pharmaceutical cluster “Tashkent Pharma Park”, unfolding on 130 hectares of land in the Zangiata district. The project is being implemented in order to stimulate the comprehensive development of the pharmaceutical industry in the Republic.

During the presentations, responsible managers spoke about the current results of the work done and plans for the future. In particular, it is planned to build a Center for Expertise and Standardization of Medicines, Medical Devices and Medical Equipment, research centers, a vivarium, a Pharmaceutical Technical University, manufacturing enterprises, office buildings, a sports complex with a stadium and other facilities on the territory of the cluster. Already now, large foreign companies from Turkey, the Czech Republic, India, China and Uzbekistan have confirmed their interest in obtaining resident status. These companies plan to implement projects worth about $200 million in the cluster.

The members of the commission were interested in the current state of the implementation of each component of the cluster, the progress of work on the construction of each facility, connection to utilities, and other aspects.

In a dialogue with entrepreneurs, issues relevant to business were raised, as well as constructive ideas for the further development of the pharmaceutical industry. Responsible managers were given instructions in terms of accelerating work on the implementation of each stage of creating a cluster, identifying emerging issues and promptly resolving them through close interagency cooperation.
