President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation of proposals for developing urbanization processes and expanding green spaces in the city of Tashkent, the press service of the head of our state reports.
In recent years, the capital’s economy and agglomeration have been developing dynamically, with the permanent population of Tashkent exceeding 3.1 million. However, it is projected that by 2045, the city’s population will more than double. This requires urbanization to be developed proportionately to the burden on housing, transport, logistics, and utility networks, as well as social infrastructure.
To improve the urban environment and quality of life, expanding green spaces has been identified as a priority. Specifically, plans call for tripling the area of green spaces in Tashkent and surrounding areas to 25,000 hectares, and increasing the per capita green space from 3 to 6 square meters.
Over the past period, initiators have submitted 85 project proposals for construction, covering a total area of 2,679 hectares. The presentation presented the results of their comprehensive review.
During the study, special attention was paid to assessing each project based on a unified urban development approach, the feasibility of creating green spaces on at least 30 percent of the territory, the comprehensive renewal of outdated areas through renovation, and the abandonment of the practice of infill development on land plots up to one hectare in size.
Following the review, 18 projects were proposed for approval, 12 projects were optimized with changes to land area, number of floors, and concept, and 54 projects were deemed to require a complete conceptual review.
Plans for the expansion of the Yangi Avlod special industrial zone in the Yangihayot district were also reviewed separately. The importance of a phased relocation of large industrial enterprises from central Tashkent and the placement of high-value-added production facilities that meet environmental requirements was emphasized.
The implementation of the approved projects is expected to generate an additional $1.5 billion in annual gross regional product, generate 3.5 trillion soums in budget revenue, and create 260,000 jobs.
The presentation focused on the expansion of green spaces.
It was noted that at least 30 percent of the project area, approximately 400 hectares, should be allocated to green spaces. Furthermore, new public parks totaling 134 hectares are planned for creation in nine locations in Tashkent. These proposals were approved.
It was stated that funds from infrastructure payments for the projects being implemented should be primarily directed toward the creation of new green spaces, with the remainder going toward the construction of urban infrastructure.
The President gave instructions on the development of urbanization processes in the capital, aligning them with public interests, the requirements of a healthy urban environment, and environmental standards.
