The President reviewed the development projects at Urgench International Airport

A terminal for servicing official delegations has been constructed at Urgench International Airport, while the first phase of the reconstruction of the new airfield complex is progressing at an accelerated pace.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Khorezm Region began with a review of these projects, the press service of the head of our state reports.

The airport was commissioned in 1960 and granted international status in 1992. Covering a total area of more than 285 hectares, the complex has served thousands of passengers over the years. Currently, around ten leading airlines operate regular flights through the airport. This year alone, the airport has provided services worth 126 billion soums, a 31 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Global developments, growing tourist flows, and the expanding scale of international cooperation have made it necessary to significantly increase the airport’s existing capacity.

A total of $264 million in investment has been allocated for the expansion and modernization of Urgench International Airport. The project is being implemented under a public-private partnership.

The South Korean company Incheon International Airport Corporation, which operates one of the world’s most advanced, high-tech, and renowned aviation hubs, has been engaged as the project’s private partner.

The President noted that the cities of Khiva and Urgench are becoming global venues for major international summits, high-level diplomatic meetings, as well as prestigious economic and cultural forums. It was emphasized that ensuring a high level of comfort and security for foreign delegations arriving for such events directly contributes to strengthening the country’s international standing.

As part of the reconstruction, the airport is being equipped to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A350. This will make it possible to establish direct, nonstop long-haul flights to Khorezm from various continents.

During the first phase, an apron for 18 aircraft and a new taxiway will be completed. In addition, the airport is being equipped with modern border and visa control facilities, a comfortable business lounge, various retail outlets and catering facilities, a 24-hour medical center, and a duty-free zone offering products from global brands.

Upon completion of the project, the airport’s passenger handling capacity will increase from 300 to 1,300 passengers per hour.
