The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the Mayor of Nara

During his official visit to Japan, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Gen Nakagawa, the mayor of Nara, the press service of the head of our state reports.

The parties discussed the further development of interregional ties, with a particular emphasis on strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The establishment of sister-city relations between Samarkand and Nara, which have deep historical ties, was highly praised. It was emphasized that Samarkand was the center of the Great Silk Road for many centuries, and the ancient Japanese capital of Nara its eastern gateway. These cities played a significant role in the development of international trade and knowledge exchange, forming cultural bridges between civilizations.

The importance of thorough preparations for the archaeological exhibition on the culture and history of Uzbekistan, which will be presented at the Nara National Museum in 2027, was noted. This project will be a large-scale cultural event in honor of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Uzbek-Japanese diplomatic relations.

As a symbol of the eternal friendship and cultural and historical affinity between the two countries and peoples, Gen Nakagawa announced the mayor’s office’s decision to name one of Nara’s new parks after the city of Samarkand.

During the conversation, the need to actively promote trade, economic, and investment ties between the two sister cities and implement joint cooperation projects in areas such as agriculture, tourism, textiles, transportation, logistics, and urban development was also emphasized.
