The President of Uzbekistan and the President of Singapore held talks

Today, on May 24, negotiations were held at the Kuksaroy residence between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Singapore Halima Yakub, the press service of the head of our state reports.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of Singapore expressed her sincere gratitude to the head of our state for the invitation to visit Uzbekistan on a state visit and the warm and cordial welcome given to the Singaporean delegation. Words of support and wishes for great success in the upcoming presidential elections in Uzbekistan were expressed.

It was emphasized that this high-level visit is the first in 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.

The consistent implementation of all agreements on key areas of cooperation reached following the historic visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Singapore in January this year was noted with satisfaction.

During the talks, much attention was paid to the further strengthening of political dialogue and inter-parliamentary ties, the implementation of mutual support within the framework of international organizations, the implementation of training programs in the field of public administration, the intensification of contacts in the field of public security and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

Great progress in the trade, economic and investment spheres was highlighted.

Since the beginning of the year, mutual trade indicators have increased several times. Singapore has become one of the largest investors in Uzbekistan.

Under active implementation are projects worth 3.8 billion dollars in the chemical and textile industries, transport and logistics, urban development, educational services, privatization with leading Singaporean companies such as Indorama, Meinhardt Group, Franklin Templeton, Enercon, PSA, Changi Airport.

The prospects for building up economic cooperation are substantively considered. Confidence was expressed that the results of the Uzbek-Singapore business forum as part of the business program of the visit will serve to expand investment cooperation with leading companies in such areas as trade, logistics, innovation, energy, healthcare.

The issues of ensuring food security and establishing supplies of fruit and vegetable products to the Singaporean market were considered.

A resolute attitude to expand cooperation in the implementation of humanitarian projects was reaffirmed.

The importance of introducing the Singaporean experience in the field of public administration and training of managerial personnel within the framework of a newly created joint educational center based on the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was emphasized.

Support was expressed for the activities of Singaporean universities in Uzbekistan, as well as the intensification of regular cultural, educational and tourist exchanges between the two countries.

The heads of state exchanged views on topical issues of regional integration in Central and Southeast Asia, noted the high level of mutual understanding and mutual support on international platforms, primarily within the UN, as well as in the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

The talks were held in a confidential, open and friendly atmosphere.
