On November 27, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of Saudi Arabia led by the Kingdom’s Minister of Investment Khalid al-Falih, the press service of the head of our state reports.
Current issues of further expansion of Uzbek-Saudi multifaceted cooperation and full-scale partnership, including the unconditional practical implementation of agreements at the highest level, were discussed.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Investment conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to the leader of Uzbekistan from the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Crown Prince, Prime Minister Muhammad bin Salman Al Saud.
The head of our state noted with great satisfaction the dynamic development of mutually beneficial cooperation in recent years.
Indicators of mutual trade and volumes of Saudi direct investment in the economy of Uzbekistan, primarily in the field of “green” energy, are growing, and the frequency of direct flights is increasing.
With the support of the Saudi Development Fund, a number of socially significant projects are being implemented in the fields of healthcare, education, water supply and other areas.
A joint fund for expanding the economic opportunities of Uzbekistan is being created.
As part of the current visit of the Saudi delegation, agreements were signed on the implementation of mutually beneficial projects in the field of chemistry, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, IT and infrastructure development worth $12 billion.
The importance of accelerating the implementation of large energy projects in various regions of our country was emphasized.
An agreement was also reached to promote new projects and programs totaling $11 billion in the field of transport infrastructure and utilities, geology, irrigation, household waste processing, higher education, and labor migration.
The fruitful partnership with ACWA Power, which is the largest investor and strategic partner in the development of green energy in Uzbekistan, was especially emphasized. The company currently has $7.5 billion worth of projects underway.
The President of our country welcomed the launch of a modern thermal power plant with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts in the Syrdarya region and the start of construction of a pilot production of “green hydrogen” in the Tashkent region.
A ceremony was also held to award Minister Khalid al-Falih the Order of Dustlik for his great contribution and comprehensive support for the development of multifaceted and mutually beneficial relations between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia.
