On September 18, as part of a stay program in New York City, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the President of the European Council Charles Michel at the residence allocated for him, the press service of the head of our state reports.
Issues of further expansion of Uzbek-European multifaceted cooperation were considered, primarily in political, trade, economic, investment and humanitarian spheres.
The current highest level of bilateral relations was noted with particular satisfaction. The visit of the head of the European Council to Uzbekistan, summits in the “EU – Central Asia” format, the International Conference on Interconnectivity and economic forums were successfully held.
Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with EU countries has increased by 35 percent, large investment projects are being implemented with leading European companies, and significant cultural events are being held.
During the meeting, issues of the early adoption of the Agreement on Expanded Partnership and Cooperation, the creation of favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investment, as well as deepening cooperation in the main sectors of the economy, including through the conclusion of bilateral documents on a long-term basis, were discussed.
President of the European Council Charles Michel emphasized the leading role of the leader of Uzbekistan in promoting regional cooperation, strengthening relations of trust, good neighborliness and partnership in Central Asia.
Special attention was paid to the development of effective international transport corridors, in particular the Trans-Caspian multimodal route.
An exchange of views also took place on the emerging situation in Afghanistan, including efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
