The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of the country’s early accession to the WTO

On June 5, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the press service of the head of our state reports.

The practical measures taken for our country’s accession to the WTO were reviewed.

It was emphasized with satisfaction that in a short period two meetings of the Working Group were held, active negotiations are underway with member countries, discussions have begun on the conditions for supporting agriculture, and work continues to harmonize national legislation with the norms and rules of the Organization.

The importance of establishing cooperation in the development of a green economy, e-commerce and increasing the export of digital services was also noted.

Special attention is paid to increasing the potential of Uzbek experts in matters of regulating international trade. In this context, it was proposed to create a Competence Center in the field of trade policy in Uzbekistan with the support of the WTO.

The head of our state thanked the Director General of the WTO for participating in the round table and meeting with students from leading universities in Uzbekistan, and also congratulated her on conferring the title of honorary doctor of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy.

In conclusion, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala expressed support for Uzbekistan’s efforts to join the Organization.
