On December 9, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the International Automobile Federation (FIA), led by its President Mohammed bin Sulayem. The delegation is in Uzbekistan to attend the General Assembly of this prestigious organization, which is taking place in Tashkent, the press service of the head of our state reports.
The delegation also included FIA Senate President Carmelo Sanz de Barros and FIA Vice President for Automotive Mobility and Tourism Tim Shearman.
The delegation discussed current issues related to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with this global organization, which regulates motorsports and promotes road safety.
Mohammed bin Sulayem praised the large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at developing professional and mass sports, promoting a healthy lifestyle, increasing physical activity, and raising a well-rounded generation.
The importance of close cooperation in developing the entire spectrum of motorsports in our country, from karting to formula racing, was noted.
Particular attention was paid to the Federation’s assistance in training Uzbek pilots, karters, engineers, designers, and mechanics, utilizing the capabilities of the FIA University; the creation of a modern motorsports infrastructure in Uzbekistan; the implementation of programs to ensure the safety of people and vehicles; and the hosting of international competitions under the auspices of the FIA, primarily Formula 1 races.
At the end of the meeting, the leader of our country presented the head of the FIA with the prestigious state award, the “Dustlik” Order, for his significant personal contribution to developing cooperation with the International Automobile Federation and promoting motorsports in Uzbekistan in accordance with international standards.
It is worth noting that Uzbekistan has been an active member of the federation since 2019. Last year, an extraordinary anniversary FIA General Assembly was held in Samarkand, dedicated to its 120th anniversary. As part of the current event, an awards ceremony for the best athletes and teams will be held on December 12 at the Humo Arena complex, with the participation of high-ranking foreign guests and champion pilots.
