A round table was held on the development of agriculture and ensuring food security

The Senate Committee on Agrarian and Water Management Issues, together with the nationwide movement ‘‘Yuksalish’’, held a round table dedicated to the implementation of issues related to the development of agriculture and food security within the framework of the Strategy “Uzbekistan-2030”. This was reported by the press service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the standing commissions of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional, district and city Kengashes of people’s deputies, experts, members of the Youth Parliament, employees of the relevant ministries and departments, as well as the media.

It was noted that in the first half of the year, more than 1,000 new jobs were created in the agricultural sector due to the implementation of 61 projects worth 450 billion soums as part of the program, and food products were produced for 43.5 trillion soums.

This year, industrial products worth 1.4 trillion soums were manufactured, including 1.2 thousand tons of raw silk, about 600 tons of silk wool, 6.8 million running meters of silk fabric, 626 tons of twisted silk thread, 2.1 million pieces of finished silk products and more than 500 silk carpets. Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate was 151%.

The “In-vitro” laboratories available in the republic supplied more than 4 million certified seedlings to producers, and intensive vegetable planting was provided on an area of 50 thousand hectares.

In addition, in order to increase the export potential of local fruit and vegetable products, and provide practical assistance to domestic exporters, the Agency for Quarantine and Plant Protection created ‘‘Export Headquarters’’ in 14 regions of the republic, to which specialists in this field are assigned.

Together with the private sector, 13 plant clinics and 479 service teams have been created, and approximately 2,000 new jobs have been created by attaching residents’ homes to 639 biolaboratories.

It was noted that the establishment of public control, in particular parliamentary control over the implementation of tasks set in this area in the regions, increases the responsibility of responsible workers at the local level.

The senators also emphasized the importance of the tasks set in the program to prevent water shortages, improve the culture of rational water use and water efficiency.

Discussions on the implementation of the tasks defined in the state program took place in the form of open questions and answers. At the same time, an exchange of views on the upcoming work took place.

At the end of the event, the relevant ministries and departments were given recommendations on further work to develop the agricultural sector.
