Uzbekistan and Masdar signed an agreement to finance the construction of the first wind farm

Uzbekistan and Masdar (UAE) signed an agreement to finance a project to build the first industrial wind farm in Uzbekistan with a capacity of 500 megawatts in the Tamdy district of Navoi region, the correspondent of Podrobno.uz reports.

The Zarafshan wind farm is the largest such project in Central Asia, which will provide electricity to about 500,000 households and prevent the emission of about 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year. The project is being implemented as part of Uzbekistan’s goal of meeting 25% of its electricity demand from renewable energy sources by 2030.

The project is expected to attract over $600 million in foreign direct investment.

The Zarafshan wind farm, scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2024, is Masdar’s second large-scale industrial project in Uzbekistan. The first was a 100 MW solar photovoltaic plant launched in 2021 in the Karmana district of the Navoi region.

In addition, in 2021, Masdar also signed an agreement to build solar photovoltaic stations with a total capacity of 897 MW in a number of regions of Uzbekistan.
