Tashkent hosted the Uzbek-Swedish Roundtable, featuring the Deputy Minister of MIIT and the State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden

On June 10, Tashkent hosted the Uzbek-Swedish Roundtable, featuring Akram Aliev, Deputy Minister of MIIT, and Diana Janse, State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden, the press service of the MIIT reports. The event brought together diplomats, government agencies, and leading corporations, including Sandvik, ABB, Elekta, AstraZeneca, SKF, and Ericsson.

During the meeting, participants highlighted Uzbekistan’s economic performance, noting that GDP reached $147 billion by the end of 2025, alongside the mobilization of $150 billion in foreign direct investment. The country aims to expand its economic volume to $240 billion by 2030.

The parties discussed leveraging the “GSP+” preferential tariff scheme to facilitate duty-free exports of 6,200 Uzbek product lines to European markets, as well as Sweden’s strategic entry into the Central Asian market of 80 million consumers.

Key growth areas identified for bilateral partnership include the pharmaceutical sector, with potential projects within the “Tashkent Pharma Park” cluster; the IT industry, which offers investor tax incentives until 2040; and the mining and energy sectors, with a strategic focus on expanding green energy generation to 54 percent by 2030.

Following the B2B and B2G sessions, the participants agreed to proceed directly to the practical implementation of joint investment projects.
