Uzbekistan and Iraq are taking practical steps to expand trade, economic, and investment cooperation

Uzbek diplomats accredited to Kuwait held talks with representatives of several ministries and agencies of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq during a working visit to Iraq, according to the report of the correspondent of Dunyo News Agency.

In particular, the delegation met with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, and the National Investment Commission of Iraq, as well as the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Kurdistan Region.

During the meetings, the parties discussed the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the level of the leadership and governments of the two countries, the expansion of trade, economic and investment cooperation, the strengthening of the legal and contractual framework, the development of transport and logistics connectivity, and the enhancement of cooperation between the business communities of the two countries.

The parties agreed to hold the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Tashkent, accelerate the coordination of documents in the field of trade and economic cooperation, strengthen cooperation on the mutual promotion and protection of investments, and continue their regular dialogue.

Special attention was given to the implementation of pilot investment projects in both countries, the exchange of information on public-private partnership issues and priority investment sectors, as well as the organization of the next Uzbekistan-Iraq Business Forum within the framework of the Baghdad International Fair in 2027.

The parties also identified practical measures to establish Uzbekistan Trade Houses in Baghdad and Erbil, expand exports of Uzbek products to the Iraqi and Gulf markets, and enhance the exchange of information on customs and transport-logistics issues. As part of this effort, an online meeting was organized with the participation of representatives of the Iraqi company Al-Kalab, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, and the Trade Development Company JSC.

The negotiations resulted in agreements to develop cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries, establish the Iraq-Uzbekistan Business Council, and regularly organize joint business forums, B2B meetings, and business missions.

Following the visit, the parties reaffirmed their readiness to further expand trade, economic, investment and business ties, accelerate the implementation of joint projects, and strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iraq.
